Braden Matson is the Chair of the Board for Counties Manukau Touch Association (CMTA), having been elected to the Board in September 2022 and swiftly appointed to the role of Chairperson. A dedicated and passionate community advocate, Braden brings a wealth of governance, legal, and grassroots sports experience to the role.
In addition to his leadership at CMTA, Braden serves as a Committee Member for Pohutukawa Coast Touch, one of the largest and fastest-growing modules in the province. His involvement is a vital link between CMTA and the vibrant, expanding touch community along the Pohutukawa Coast.
Braden is also the Vice-Chair of Elementz Sports Group, a community-driven organisation committed to youth development and sport in the region. He is an active member and local leader within Elementz Sports Club, further reinforcing his commitment to inclusive and accessible sport for all.
Professionally, Braden is a qualified Lawyer (LLB/MA) and the Managing Director of Sutcliffe Matson Law, a local legal firm. He has lived in the Pohutukawa Coast community for over a decade, first in Beachlands and now in Maraetai, where he resides with his wife and three children.
Braden's leadership reflects a strong commitment to community, youth engagement, and the long-term growth of Touch in Counties Manukau. His presence on the CMTA Board strengthens the connection between provincial leadership and grassroots development.
Peter Bentley is a long-serving and highly respected figure in the Touch community, bringing over two decades of experience to his role on the Counties Manukau Touch Association (CMTA) Board, which he joined in 2023. His extensive involvement across all levels of the sport includes serving as a coach, coaching advisor, coaching director, and now in a governance capacity.
Peter is renowned for his strategic and technical insight, shaped by years of leadership in High Performance environments. He has served as a New Zealand Head Coach and played a pivotal role in Touch New Zealand’s High Performance and Pathways Programme, helping to mentor and develop athletes and coaches at the elite level.
Outside of Touch, Peter’s professional background spans system change, human resources, and organisational sustainability—expertise that he brings to the CMTA Board to support long-term stability, growth, and impact across the province.
Peter's contributions to the sport have been recognised with multiple Service to Touch Awards, a testament to his enduring commitment and influence. He is widely respected not only within Counties Manukau, but across Aotearoa and the international Touch community for his leadership, knowledge, and unwavering passion for the game.
Pat Spellman is a respected community leader, marketing expert, and long-serving advocate for Touch in Aotearoa. Since 2018, Pat has contributed extensively to the Counties Manukau Touch Association (CMTA), holding various leadership roles including Vice President, Secretary, and Board Member across multiple terms. He was first appointed to the Board in 2019 and re-appointed again in 2025, continuing his unwavering commitment to the growth and impact of the sport in South Auckland and beyond.
Pat is the founder of the Pacific Cup Touch, the largest Touch tournament for Pasifika communities in the world. In 2024, he established the WAI (We Are Indigenous) Foundation, an organisation dedicated to empowering indigenous communities through sport and culture. Through WAI, Pat is spearheading the development of the inaugural Indigenous Touch World Cup, set to take place in 2027.
Beyond Touch, Pat serves as a Trustee for several key organisations including Māori Touch NZ, Counties Manukau Rugby League, and Tāmaki Makaurau Touch Inc, reflecting his broad commitment to kaupapa Māori and community sport.
Professionally, Pat is the Māori Engagement Lead for a regional sports trust, where he plays a key role in ensuring cultural responsiveness and authentic engagement across sport and recreation initiatives. He also provides marketing and PR support to a wide range of projects and organisations throughout Aotearoa, leveraging his extensive experience in brand, communications, and community engagement.
Living and working in South Auckland, Pat is known for his energy, innovation, and deep dedication to creating spaces where Pacific and Māori communities can thrive.
